William J. "Bill" Churilla, 90, of Uniontown, PA, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2016, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 10, 1925, in Bitner, PA, a son of the late Charles and Julia (Sokol) Churilla.
In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Julia "Jay" (LaLaKulich) Churilla in May of 1993; brothers, Steve, Charles, Sam, John, George, and Joseph Churilla; sisters, Ann Hosa, Julia Sadosky; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was a member of St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown. He worked for the Hagan Ice Cream Company for 43 years before he retired. Bill loved going to church, gardening, gambling, and taking long walks, especially hiking through the woods. He was a big Pittsburgh Steelers fan and an even bigger Pittsburgh Pirates fan; he loved and enjoyed the game of baseball. Bill was a quiet and gentle man, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and he will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish his memory is his children, Deborah A. Churilla of Uniontown, Billy G. Churilla of Uniontown, and Donna M. Cook and husband Mike of Connellsville; grandchildren, Jennifer Cook of Scottdale, PA and Brian Cook of Connellsville; sister, Marge Pierce of Uniontown; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Friends will be received at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 North Gallatin Ave. Ext, Uniontown, PA., on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, February 11, until 9:30 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.
The Funeral Mass will follow in St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, 61 North Mount Vernon Avenue, Uniontown, PA, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Father Peter L. Peretti as Celebrant.
Interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery Uniontown, PA.
