Obituary

Walter M. "Walt" Smith, Jr., 92, of Uniontown, PA, died on Monday, November 26, 2012 at the Uniontown Hospital. He was born on July 24, 1920 in Buffington, PA, son of Walter and Ida (Lukowski) Smith.

His parents and wife Rita (Linney) Smith preceded him in death.

Walter was a graduate of Waynesburg University, and was an Accountant for several local businesses over the years; as well as the Fayette County Housing Authority, and the Fayette County MHMR where he acted as the Fiscal Administrator, and from which he retired.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, and had been a member and former officer in the Lion's Club, tirelessly devoting his time at club fundraisers, especially at the Fayette County Fair.

Walter proudly served his country during WWII with the United States Army 2nd Air Cargo Control Squadron at the rank of Staff Sergeant, in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations.

He enjoyed golfing and traveling in his free time. He was a great Dad, and will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Surviving are his children, Lawrence E. Smith and wife Deborah of Uniontown, PA, Karen L. Manzini and husband Charles of McMurray, PA, and Anita L. Mallicone of Greensburg, PA; five grandchildren, Wesley and Trey Mallicone; twins, Laurence Smith, and Leah Walters and husband David; and Jaime Johns and husband Richard; six great grandchildren; and companion Garnet Malinzak.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, 50 Jefferson St., Uniontown, PA, on Monday, December 3, 2012 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Father James D. Tringhese as Celebrant.

The Committal Service will be Private.
