Veronica 'Babs' Hanyo, age 96, a lifetime resident of Uniontown, Pa., died peacefully February 24, 2024 at Lafayette Manor in Uniontown. She was born on June 15, 1927, in Uniontown, Pa., daughter of John and Anna (Michlik) Musial.
Her husband, Charles Robert 'Bob' Hanyo preceded her in death, as well as, her parents, brother, John Musial (Sophia), and sister, Marcella Caton (William).
She grew up on Coffee Street in Uniontown and attended Gallatin School. She graduated from Uniontown Senior High School, Class of 1946. Following high school, she was employed by The Bell Telephone Co. as a switch board operator and became the Manager of the Engineering Department. She had a long employment with The Bell.
Veronica and Bob were married on September 8, 1956, at St. Joseph's Church. They were married for 55 years. She accompanied Bob when he played his trumpet with the VFW band at the Twin Coaches, the Wishing Well and to Mt. Summit Hotel. She loved his music, dancing, playing golf, traveling and bingo.
Veronica was an active member of the Uniontown Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She also enjoyed bus trips to area Casinos. Her luck and her stories were legendary.
Veronica's energy, laugh and love of life was contagious. She loved her family, her faith, and attended Mass daily whenever she could.
Her family and friends hold onto their memories of her, John and Colleen Musial, nephew; Patricia and Roy Gogolin, niece; Kathleen and Bob McNamara, niece; Marian and Patrick Beirne; niece; Marcie and Scott Nassimbeni, niece; 12 great nieces and nephews; and 13 great great nieces and nephews; and best friend, Donna Stenger.
Friends and family may call at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, PA 15401, on Friday, March 1 from 5 to 7 PM. A mass of christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 2 at 10 AM at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 180 Walnut Hill Rd., Uniontown, PA 15401. Prayers of transfer will be held at the funeral home at 9:15 AM.
Interment is in St. Joseph Cemetery in Fairchance.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association, in lieu of flowers.
