Thomas Joseph (Tim) Cervenak, age 96, died on August 12, 2017 in Uniontown Hospital following injuries sustained from a fall in his home.

He was born in Akron, Ohio on December 4, 1920 to Susan (Danko) and Michael Cervenak. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Hermina (Prah) Cervenak; brother S1C Albert M. Cervenak, killed in WWII; sister Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Cervenak Bailey; and infant grand-nephew Christopher Michael Albani.

He is survived by his niece Pat Cervenak Albani and her husband Dick of Albuquerque, NM; grand-nephew Ric Albani of Sacramento, CA; grand-niece Robyn Albani-Crews of Los Lunas, NM; great grand-niece Kylie Colvill; great grand-nephew Liam Crews; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Special thanks to niece Veronica Horvath and her family who looked after his needs as much as Tim would allow.

Tim was a graduate of Uniontown High School, class of 1938. Sgt. Cervenak was a decorated Veteran. During WWII, he served in the Army Air Corp as an aircraft tail gunner. He was awarded the Soldier's Medal for Valor for saving the life of his pilot, when on a training mission they crashed into a river.

Following WWII, Tim attended West Virginia University. After a short career as a newspaper journalist in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, Tim worked as a surveyor in and around Pittsburgh. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Uniontown.

Tim will be remembered as a very independent man of few words who was well read, well informed, and had a "witty" sense of humor. He grew up in New Salem, Pennsylvania; belonged to the American Legion there and enjoyed getting together with his New Salem buddies when they were all younger and healthier.

He was a lifelong Catholic and longtime member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church. He used to enjoy golfing and loved all Pittsburgh sports, especially the Steelers.

Friends will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 North Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, Pennsylvania on Sunday, August 20, from 4 to 8 PM and Monday, August 21, until 11:30 a.m. when prayers of transfer will be said.

The Funeral Mass will follow on Monday at 12 p.m. in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 50 Jefferson Street, Uniontown, Pennsylvania with Rev. Father James D. Tringhese as celebrant.

Interment will be held at Mt. Macrina Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103.
