Thomas J. Shaffer, 82, of Uniontown, PA, died on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at his home. He was born on January 22, 1932 in Uniontown, son of Ralph and Georgia (Burd) Shaffer, who preceded him in death.

Thomas was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, then served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army as a Pharmacist. He later opened Medical Pharmacy on Connellsville St. which he ran successfully for twenty years. He also worked with Rite Aid Corp., served many nursing and retirement facilities, and retired from Perry Drug, Perryopolis.

He was a member of St. Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, and member of Parish Council. He was an active member of the community as Past President of Uniontown Savings and Loan, Past President of Fayette County Pharmaceutical Association, Board of Directors for Laurel Highlands School District, Board of Directors for Laurel House, and member of the Lions Club.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of fifty-seven years Dorothy (Hanzes) Shaffer, their children, Suzanne Carothers and husband David of Wexford, PA, Jamie Gonzales and husband Louis of Chester, MD, and Tom Shaffer and wife Judy of Cranberry Township, PA; six grandchildren, Sara and Brian Carothers, Benjamin and Georgia Byers, and Joel and Kyle Shaffer; three step-grandchildren, Brehanna, Mahlia, and Cole Gonzales; two sisters, Eleanor Aspen of Philadelphia, PA, and Sally Friend and husband Grover of Yardley, PA; two sisters-in law, Mary Ann Pierce of Rockville MD, and Evelyn Hensh and husband Paul of Uniontown, PA and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral home, Inc. 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Saturday, March 29, from 6-8 PM; Sunday, March 30, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.; and Monday, March 31 until 9:15 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.

The Funeral Mass will follow on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church with Monsignor Michael W. Matusak as Celebrant.

Interment will be held in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Uniontown, PA, where military honors will be accorded by AMVETS Post 103 Chaplin and Commander.

The Parish Wake Service will be held on Sunday afternoon at 3 P.M.
