Thomas R. Scott, 81 of Uniontown, Pa., passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at LaFayette Manor. He was born in Rogersville (Greene County, Pa) on November 4, 1938 to Henry "Flick" Scott and Pauline (Rose) Scott.
His parents, infant son Thomas Ross Scott, sisters, Bonna Jo Crouse, Pat McHenry, a brother John Scott and brothers-in-law Art Cullen and Ronnie Mancini preceded him in death.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Cecilia L. "Cel" (Mancini) Scott, their daughter Kathryn P. "Katie" Smith and husband Tim; and twin grandchildren, Riley E. and Ross T. Smith, all of Waterville Valley, New Hampshire. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Patty Romano and husband George of Pittsburgh, Pa, Donna Cullen of Uniontown, Pa., Elaine Mancini of Finleyville, PA, brother-in-law Paul Crouse of Rogersville, Pa., many nieces and nephews, and very special friends, Catherine Hallman, her children, and grandchildren.
Following his graduation from West Greene High School in 1956, he proudly served his country with the United States Navy. He worked in the banking industry with First Federal Savings and Loan of Greene County and then Second National Bank where he retired as the Uniontown Branch Manager. After retiring, he worked with the United Way of Westmoreland and Fayette County.
Tom was a leader in the community where he used his professional abilities to help others by serving on several boards and councils over the years. He was involved with the Uniontown Rotary Club, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, YMCA, Junior Achievement and the Fayette Chamber of Commerce. Most recently he was an active member of the Fayette County Senior Golf Association and the chairman of the board for Lafayette Manor. In 2000, he was named as Citizen of the Year by the Fayette Chamber of Commerce for his selfless volunteerism and conviction to helping others any way possible.
Tom was also active in Boy Scouts of America for nearly 60 years. He was the first Eagle Scout in his hometown troop in Rogersville. He taught junior leadership as a member of the Westmoreland-Fayette Council of the Boy Scouts of America, served as commissioner for Old Trails Council, was a recipient of the Order of the Arrow, Wood Badge Beads and their highest honor, the Silver Beaver Award.
He was a member of St. Therese Roman Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, lector, and chairman of the finance council as well as other parish committees for many years. He was a member of George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 Hopwood and the American Legion Post 51.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, as he touched so many lives.
Friends will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Extension, Uniontown, Pa., on Tuesday, December 10, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
Prayers of Transfer will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 11 at 9:15 a.m.
The Funeral Mass will follow on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, 61 Mill St., Uniontown, Pa. Interment will be held at Sylvan Heights Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by George C. Marshall Amvets Post 103.
The following services will be held on Tuesday: St. Therese Parish Rosary 3 p.m.; Westmoreland-Fayette Boy Scouts of America Vesper Service 7 p.m.
In lieu of other tributes please make contributions in his name to the American SIDS Institute, Boy Scouts of America, or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
