Obituary

Stephen W. Susa, 99, of Uniontown, Pa. passed away peacefully on Monday, March 26, 2012 in the Cherry Tree Nursing Center, Uniontown.

He was born on October 11, 1912 in Gates, Pa., a son of John and Mary Chupella Susa.

Steve, as he liked to be called, graduated from German Township High School with the Class of 1932. He began his career with H. C. Frick/US Steel and worked at various local coal mining operations. After retiring from US Steel, Steve worked in the direct sales business, managed two different gas stations and served as a night security guard for the Fayette County Courthouse.

Steve was a long-time Steelers and Pirates fan; was active with the local Sportsman Group and a 72 year member of St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown. He always had a great interest in old and new cars.

Steve was a story teller with few equals and could recount, in great detail, events that occurred over many years. Also, he could figure out how to fix nearly everything. He was particularly proud of building his family's home where he lived for the past 56 years.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Helen Markovich Susa, three sisters and two brothers.

Steve is survived by his daughter Stephanie Susa Stefano and husband Jim of Connellsville; his son Ronald Susa and wife Marti of St. Louis, Mo.; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, sisters Antoinette Susa Cappellanti, Dolores Susa Strcula Smith, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Steve's family would like to thank the Cherry Tree Nursing Center staff and Your Comforting Care agency, especially Stacy and Lori, for the care and compassion they provided.

Friends will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, Pa., on Friday, March 30, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.; and on Saturday, March 31, 2012 until 9:15 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.

The Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, 61 North Mt. Vernon Ave., Uniontown, Pa., with Rev. Father Stephen R. Bugay as Celebrant.

Interment will be held at St. Mary (Nativity) Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.

The Parish Wake Service will be held on Friday, March 30, at 3:30 p.m.
