Robert Lee Van Verth, age 85, of Uniontown, PA, died on Tuesday, January 3, 2012. He was born on September 15, 1926 in York Run, PA, son of the late George H. and Nellie (Smith) Van Verth.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters, George Van Verth, Jr., Ray Van Verth, William Van Verth, Viola Shaffer, and Mary Smith.
Robert retired from National Mines Corp. and was a member of UMWA District 2. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. during WWII in Okinawa, South Pacific Theater of Operations. He enjoyed hunting with his sons, son-in-law, and grandsons; and was a devoted and loving husband to his wife whom he has cherished for 61 years.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Carmella Rita (Remonko) Van Verth whom he married on September 18, 1950; their children, Kevin Paul Van Verth, Diane Groppi and husband Leo, Sr., and Robert Van Verth and wife Barbara, all of Uniontown, PA; four grandchildren, Leo Groppi, Jr., Justin Groppi, Robert Clayton Van Verth and wife Dawn, and Celina Metz and husband Matthew; nine great grandchildren, Andrew, Ryan, Adam, Sarah, and Nathan Van Verth; Isaac and Grace Metz; and Ella and Cayden Groppi; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff and caregivers at Peroni Personal Care Home for their wonderful and compassionate care.
In accordance and respect for their father's wishes, private funeral services were held for the family at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA.
