Robert E. Pitman, 86, of Lemont Furnace, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 24, 2012. He was born March 26, 1926 in Buffalo, NY to the late Herbert B and Mary B (Lynch) Pitman.
He attended both the University of Pittsburgh and University of Georgia until his enlistment in the U.S. Marine Corp. He was stationed at Okinawa during WII and later at Camp Lejeune N.C. He was a member of the 6th Marine Division Association and North Union VFW. He retired from the Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation in Washington, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Joan, brother-in-law Joseph Trapani, Jack Pitman, sister and brother-in-laws Donald Sr. and Bernice Howard.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Marian ("Nickie" Nickman), only son David, daughter-in-law Sandra of MD, grandsons Brian of WI, Wesley of MD, Bother-in-law James Nickman Sr, wife Karen and Elias Nickman Sr, wife Ruth both of Uniontown. He was loved by many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Fayette County Hospice, especially nurse Diane, Aides Robert, Elizabeth and Donna A., caregivers Marcia and Angie for their loving care and support.
Arrangements are private and under the direction of the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc. 603 North Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, Pa.
Inurnment will be held in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, Pa.
