Obituary

Robert "Bob" Atz unexpectedly passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024. He was born Wednesday, December 30, 1964, in Pittsburgh, PA. He was a 1983 graduate of Brownsville High School and thoroughly enjoyed their 40th Class Reunion this past summer. Following graduation Bob entered the United States Army and served four years active duty followed by reserve duty ultimately reaching the rank of Captain.

Bob attended Penn State University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mining Engineering. This was a good fit for Bob considering his experience in the Army with the Combat Engineers and explosives. He was listed on a local police department list while living in Oshkosh, WI as an explosives expert and was called upon at home to give advice on how to proceed when a suspicious package was located in a populated area.

Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara (Lukach) Atz; and his son, Nicholas Atz, and girlfriend, Nicole Clarke. Bob and Barb lived in many different places across the Eastern United States, as far North as St. Paul, MN and as far South as Colombia, SC. They called North Carolina home for many years and are forever grateful to UNC Healthcare and UNC Kidney Center. Bob was a patient to many of the physicians and nurses there but ultimately became their friend. So many have shared their best memories of Bob.

Also surviving are Bob's mother, Nancy; his two brothers and their families, Charles, Mary Jo, and Donnie Atz and youngest brother, James, Christy, Katie, and Avery Atz. Bob was predeceased by his father, Bernie; and nephew, Charlie.

Bob was fondly loved by his in-law family, Marlene and husband, Bill Bandzuch; and Donna Berkshire. He was predeceased by his in-laws, Bill and Betty Lukach; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Patty Lukach; and his niece, Amy Bandzuch Tungate.

Left to carry on the memories of their Uncle Bob are, Becky and Marcus Macino and their daughters, Erica and Lila; Mike and Margo Lukach and expected baby, Billie; Dave and Natascha Lukach; Bill and Nancy Bandzuch and their family, Gus, Bernadette, Dominic, Josephine, George, and Regina; niece, Tina Bandzuch and great nephew, Maddox Tungate; Colbie Foreman, son, Nolan Vucelik, and her fiancé, Steve Voycek; Tyler and Alexa Foreman and daughters, Scarlett and Farrah.

We have always said that "all dogs loved Bob" and he leaves behind his constant companion George, as well as Koko and Carmen.
