Retha E. (Moody) Benedict, age 91 of Uniontown, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, July 29, 2019, at Beechwood Court Assisted Living Center. Born in Greene County on May 22, 1928, to the late Ralph and Virginia (Burns) Moody, Retha was raised by her loving grandparents, the late O.C. and Anna Burns. Retha was a beloved wife of forty-nine years to her late husband Anthony J. Benedict. She is also predeceased by a sister, Irene Hamilton.
Retha was an avid reader and loved baking for her family. She was a devoted member of St. Francis of Assisi (All Saints) Parish of Masontown and a hardworking volunteer for nearly twenty years at Masontown Helping Hands Ministry, where she served as an original board member. Retha also enjoyed her service as a long-time volunteer at Uniontown Hospital.
Surviving are her daughters Christina (Robert) Badovinac of Fredericksburg, VA; Kathleen (late Mark) Steinman of Ligonier, PA; Linda (Daniel) Girard of Smithfield, NC; and Cynthia (Richard) Halfin of Dunbar, PA. Retha is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Lisa Marlowe, Jennifer Michalsky, Byron Steinman, Alan Steinman, Mark H. Steinman, Melissa Girard, Lauren Sabo, and Bradley Halfin. She had nine great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Masontown worship site (EVERYONE TO MEET AT CHURCH). Interment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Beechwood Court for the care given Retha over the past few years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Masontown Helping Hands Ministry in memory of Retha.
