Obituary

Regis Alan Kopec, 47, formerly of Edenborn, PA, passed away at his home, in Amarillo, TX, on Thursday, September 1, 2016. He was born, October 21, 1968, in Uniontown, PA, son of the Edward J. Kopec Sr. and the late Elsie Ann (Elek) Kopec.

In addition to his mother, Regis was preceded in death by his brothers, John Kopec, and Edward J. Kopec, Jr.

Regis was a graduate of the old German Township High School, Class 1986. Regis proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1986 to 2006, when he retired with the rank of Sergeant First Class. During his time in the army Regis worked as a Machinist, and as a Certified Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course Instructor, worked in the Maintenance Battalion as a Senior Maintenance Supervisor/Observer-Controller Mechanic, served on the Funeral Detail, and was awarded many training, conduct, and leadership Certificate of Achievement Medals and myriad Meritorious Service Medals throughout his 20 year enlistment. Regis served Active Duty Tours in Panama, South Korea, Egypt, Kuwait, and several State Side Tours. Post his military enlistment, Regis worked as a U. S. Department of Energy Security Police Officer at PANTEX, Amarillo, TX, and attended Amarillo College/Automotive Technology. He was a Life Member of the Amvets Post PA-103, in Hopwood, PA. In his youth, Regis participated in German Township High School - Ulans Baseball and Football, and VFW Post 4584 Baseball League, Masontown, PA. Regis attended the Fayette County Area Vocational-Technical School, 1983-1986, in Machine Production, and earned Valedictorian, Class 1986.

Left to cherish his memory, are his children, Kathrina Elsie Kopec and Alan Regis Kopec of Mabank, TX; his father, Edward J. Kopec Sr. of Edenborn, PA; siblings, Paula A. Williams and her husband John of Dunbar, PA, Vincent J. Kopec and his wife Patricia of Farmington, PA, Mark A. Kopec and his wife Debi of Grindstone, PA, and Anita M. Kopec-Mullins of Edenborn, PA; nieces and nephews, Ashley, Sarah, John Jr., Sean, Cameron, Alex, Luke, Denver, and Levi; godparents, Janet Hela and Paul Bizik, Jr.; Regis also leaves behind several other relatives and many friends.

Friends will be received at the Haky Funeral Home Inc., 515 N. Main Street, Masontown, PA, on Friday, September 30, from 2-8 p.m. and Saturday, October 1, until 9:30 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.

The Funeral Mass will follow in St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 528 Footedale Rd, Footedale, PA., at 10 a.m. with Rev. Father William G. Berkey as Celebrant.

Interment will be held in St. Thomas Cemetery, Footedale, PA, where Military Honors will be accorded by the Amvets Post 103.
