Ralph Charles Shumar, 90, of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Uniontown, died on Monday, November 30, 2015 at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers. He was born on Sunday, March 29, 1925 in Ralph, PA, son of Levi Christopher Shumar and Blanche Mae (Grove) Shumar, who both preceded him in death.

In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Betty Louise (Sisler) Shumar; and a sister Beverly.
Ralph was a graduate of Duke University earning a Bachelors Degree in Business. He worked for Crucible Steel Corp in Pittsburgh in Sales until he retired in 1985. During WWII, Ralph honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He and his wife moved to Florida in the mid 80's, where they loved to play golf, bridge, poker and entertaining family and friends. He was a great golfer and card player. Bridge, along with poker, was his enjoyment; always ensuring amusement amongst the players.
Ralph was a compassionate father and grandfather, always opening his house for family enjoyment. He was a true Mason who decided that he likes to feel good about himself and others. Memories of Ralph include being frugal, stating "Free is Good" and trusting Walmart to come through with inexpensive items.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Ralph C. Shumar II. and wife Eileen of Ellicott City, MD, Darrell Shumar of Broomfield, CO, and Bonnie Marsh of Herndon, VA; seven grandchildren, Bobby, Megan, Eric, Sabrina, Adora, Amy, and Beth; great grandchild, Coy; two sisters, Dorothy Springer and husband Harry of Uniontown, PA, Dolores Ross of Pittsburgh, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Friday, December 4, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m; and also on Saturday, December 5, from 11 p.m. until 1 p.m.

The Funeral Ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Lee Maley officiating.

Entombment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery Chapel of Memories Mausoleum, where military honors will be accorded by VFW 8543 and Fayette County VVI.
