Peter J. "Pete" Canistra, 78 of Uniontown, Pa., died on Friday, July 13, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 1, 1940 son of the late Salvatore and Veronica (Callahan) Canistra. He was also preceded in death by his son, David A. Canistra, and son-in-law, Jeffrey Tesauro.

Pete was a member of St. Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, and member of Hutchinson Sportsmen's Club. He retired from Gerber Foods where he worked as a salesman for many years.

His love of the outdoors, hunting, and fishing were things he shared with his family. He was a great father. His sense of humor, and memories of vacations and many wonderful times spent together will never be forgotten.

He will be deeply missed by his family,  Barbara A. Canistra, and their children, Lisa Lucas (Walter Kurosky) of Fairchance; Gina Tesauro of Uniontown, Carla Parr (Malcolm) of Sykesville, Md.; and Pete J. Canistra, Jr. (Angela) of Wolverine, Mich.; eight beloved grandchildren and two great grandchildren; his sister, Karen Muzan of Follansbee, W.Va.; and 3 nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 10 a.m. in St. Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, 61 Mill St., Uniontown, Pa. In lieu of flowers or other tributes, please make donations in his memory to Alzheimer's Research, or Hutchinson Sportsmen's Club of Hopwood, Pa.
