Michael Nicholas "Pap" Fiffik's Obituary
Michael Nicholas "Pap" Fiffik, age 92, of Uniontown, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 1, 2012, with his loving family, wife Josephine, son Michael, and special niece, Donna Harvey at his side. He was born on February 25, 1920, one of eleven children of the late Michael and Mary Fiffik of Phillips, PA.
He is survived by his loving wife and companion, Josephine Fiffik, with whom he would have celebrated 66 years of marriage on March 12; their son, Michael E. Fiffik and wife Regina of Masontown, PA; a brother Robert Fiffik of Ohio, a sister, Frances Harvey and a special niece, Donna Harvey, of Niagra Falls.
Pap was the proud grandfather of four; Michael Fiffik and wife Cristen, Loren Fiffik and wife Janel, both sons of Sylvia Fiffik Vignali; and Morgan and Sydney Fiffik, daughters of Michael and Regina Fiffik. Also left to cherish his memory are three great granddaughters, Claire, Grace, and Anna, all daughters of Michael and Cristen Fiffik.
During WWII he bravely served his country with the United States Army 814th Tank Battalion, in the European Theater of Operations in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe earning four Bronze Battle Stars. He retired from the H.C. Frick Coal Mines, and later worked at Spitzlers Slaughter House for 20 years.
Pap was an avid and proud gardener. He also loved to hunt with his two Beagles.
The family wishes to express a very special thank you to the wonderful staff who cared for "Pap" at the Marquis House.
Friends will be received at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Sunday, March 4, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.; and on Monday, March 5, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m., the Hour of Service with his grandson, Michael Fiffik Officiating.
Military honors accorded by AMVETS Post 103 will follow at the funeral home chapel.
Entombment will be privately held at the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum, Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, PA.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Fayette Friends of Animals, in his name.
