Michael Mosko's Obituary
Michael "Moxie" Mosko, Sr., age 94, of Uniontown, PA, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at home. He was born on May 7, 1917 in Messmore, PA, son of the late John and Anna (Stegura) Mosko.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (Hlastala) Mosko on March 10, 2011, a grandson, Aaron Darr, and a brother, John Mosko.
Michael was a member of St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church. He was a coal miner for many years at the Phillips and Leisenring Mines. He retired from the Highway Department in 1980.
In his youth, Michael was a pitcher for the Oliver Baseball League, and member of the Big 10 Fayette County Baseball Hall of Fame.
During WWII, Michael proudly served his country with the United States Army Anti Tank Company 114th Infantry, in Southern France and Normandy, and was a POW in Germany. He was also a member of the VFW Post 47.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, daughter, Linda Lee Darr and husband Norbert III., of Greensboro, PA; son, Michael Mosko, Jr., with whom he made his home; grandchildren, Eric Darr, Mechelle Haugh and husband James; great-grandchildren, Nia Haugh and Taryn Haugh; a sister, Mary Opest of Dunbar, PA; and many nieces and nephews, and their families.
Special thanks to the Nurses and Aides of Fayette Home Care Hospice for their compassionate care.
Friends will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, today, August 31, from 6-9 p.m.; and Thursday, September 1, until 12 Noon.
Private Funeral Services will be held for the immediate family on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Father Stephen R. Bugay Officiating.
Interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded at graveside by the American Legion Post 51.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the National Kidney Foundation.
