Maurice W. Grove, age 89, of Uniontown, PA, died peacefully on Saturday, August 20, 2011, at the Uniontown Hospital.
He was born on February 1, 1922 in Uniontown, PA, a son of Orville and Elizabeth (Johnson) Grove. In addition to his parents, Maurice was preceded in death by brothers Robert and Harold Grove, and a sister, Jean Miller.
Maurice served his country during WWII with the United States Army, in the Southern Philippines, Western Pacific, and Ryukyus Campaigns. He was a decorated war veteran, wounded in battle, receiving a Purple Heart Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Battlestars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Battlestar, and Good Conduct Medal.
He was a member of Central Christian Church, and retired from Hillman Barge Company where he was a welder. He especially enjoyed gardening, and loved flowers.
Maurice is survived by his loving wife Emily L. (Kollar) Grove, with whom he celebrated 59 years of marriage on June 21. He is also survived by his brother, Reid Myron Grove of Hopwood, PA, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Monday, August 22, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.; and on Tuesday, August 23, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., the Hour of Service, with Rev. Art Mace Officiating.
Interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded at graveside by George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103.
