Obituary

Mary C. (Sweda) Sheppo, age 97, of Masontown, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Mount Macrina Manor, Uniontown, PA.

She was born on July 1, 1918 in Ronco, PA, daughter of the late George and Helen Sweda.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, George Sheppo, Jr.; brothers, Michael Sweda, George Sweda, and Johnny Sweda; and sisters, Ann Wallace, Julia Kury, and Helyne Vish.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, son, Michael Sheppo and wife Karen Sue of Gettysburg, PA, daughter, Helyn Stevens and husband Robert of Masontown, PA; three grandchildren, Lt. Cmdr. Katherine Pasieta and husband Lt. Cmdr. Scott Pasieta of Mililani, HI, Matthew Sheppo and wife Amber of Valley Glen, CA, and Marissa Stevens of Los Angeles, CA; four great grandchildren, Luke Pasieta, Alex Pasieta, Rosemary Pasieta, and Benjamin Sheppo; a sister, Bertha Haynali of Crofton, MD; a brother, Charles Sweda of Masontown, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Mary was the oldest member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, (St. Mary's) Orthodox Church of Masontown, and member of St. Mary's Orthodox Church Ladies Guild. Throughout her life, Mary was very active in school, scouting, and various community activities. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and was an excellent cook and baker; a gift that she enjoyed sharing with her family and friends.

Friends will be received at the Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 515 N. Main St., Masontown, PA, on Sunday, May 8, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.; and on Monday, May 9, until 10:30 a.m. when the Prayer Service will be held.

The Funeral Service will follow at 11 a.m. the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, (St. Mary's) Orthodox Church, 309 South Washington St., Masontown, PA, with the Very Reverend Gregory Peterson as Celebrant.

Interment will follow at St. Mary's Orthodox Cemetery, Masontown, PA.

The Parastas Service will be held on Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m.
