Obituary

Mary Ellen (Olsavsky) Kozak, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, entered into eternal rest at her Uniontown home on Monday, January 5, 2026, at the age of 86.

Born on June 16, 1939, to Joseph A. and Kathryn (Patchan) Olsavsky, Mary Ellen grew up in Fairchance and excelled in school, graduating valedictorian from Fairchance High School in 1957.  She devoted twenty-five years of professional service to Prudential Insurance Company.

Mary Ellen and George Kozak shared over sixty-four years of marriage—an enduring partnership marked by love, faith, and family. George is a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War era.

Faith anchored Mary Ellen's life. She was a committed member of St. Mary Nativity Church and offered her time and compassion through St. Vincent de Paul, Uniontown Senior Center, and at Mt. St. Macrina Cemetery.  At home, her greatest joy was gathering family around the table, especially for Holidays and Sunday dinners.  Her warmth, hospitality, and generous spirit created a home where everyone felt welcome.

Mary Ellen is lovingly remembered by her husband, George; son, Ron (Angela) of Monarch; daughter, Karen of Monroeville; grandchildren, Tori (Troy) Mathews and Seth (Kayci) Kozak; great-granddaughters, Toryn Wren Mathews and Sunny Layne Kozak; siblings, Carol (Sam) Kozak of Uniontown, Joseph Olsavsky of West Leisenring, Helen (Lee) Hustead of Greensburg, and John Olsavsky of Fredonia, NY; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and brothers- and sisters-in-law.  She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Cindy Olsavsky.

Visitation will be held at Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, PA 15401, on Friday, January 9, from 1–2 PM and 6–7 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Nativity Church, 61 N. Mt.
