Obituary

Martin J. "Joe" Fidek, age 93 of Masontown, PA., passed away peacefully at Lake West Medical Center, in Willoughby, OH., on Sunday, December 30, 2012.

Martin was born in Masontown, PA on November 9, 1919, son of the late Michael Fidek and Anna (Radovian) Fidek. In addition to his parents, Martin was preceded in death by his beloved wife with whom he was united in marriage on July 3, 1943; two brothers, Mike Fidek and John Fidek; and seven sisters, Marie Fidek, Ann Fidek, Betty Fidek, Catherine Fidek Wrobel, Sophie Gaza, Margaret Fidek, and Helen Fabinova.

Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Bertha Holonich; sister-in-law, Kay Fidek, a niece, Gloria Ianetta and husband Dale, of Kirtland, Ohio, with whom he resided; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Martin was a member of St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church, Footedale, PA, Martin was a coal miner throughout his life, where he worked as a Foreman for U.S. Steel and was a 1st Class Petty Officer for the U.S. Navy.

Martin enjoyed playing dice games, watching college football games and telling others stories about his life. He was a good athlete in his high school years.

Friends will be received at the Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 515 North Main Street, Masontown, PA, on Friday, January 4, 2013 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM and on Saturday, January 5 until 9:15 AM when Prayers of Transfer will be said.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 10:00 AM, in St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church, 528 Footdale Rd., Footedale, PA, with Rev. Father Peter L. Peretti as Celebrant.

Interment will be held at St. Thomas Cemetery, Footedale, PA.
