Obituary

Martha Ann Lardin, 90, a lifelong resident of Masontown, PA, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Lafayette Manor Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Masontown at her home on January 10, 1926, daughter of the late Benjamin Roscoe Lardin and Margaret (Martin) Lardin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, Miles Lardin, Margaret Lardin Murphy, Virginia Lardin Gapen, Jeyne Lardin Hartley, twins, Benjamin Roscoe Lardin and Beryl E. Lardin, a nephew, Raymond Murphy, and a niece, Peggy Murphy Salipek.

Martha is survived by her sister, Carrie Adeline Lardin Richter, who was her
"best buddy" and devoted caregiver for 15 years; dear nieces and nephews, George Benjamin Gapen, Frederick "Rick" Gapen, Cheryl Hartley Lawrence, twins, James Hartley and wife Patricia, and Joyce Hartley Boone and husband Nelson, Penelope "Penny" Lardin Walker Orte and husband Ray Orte, and Matthew M. Richter; two special great nieces, Robin Salipek Smochinsky and Martha Lawrence Ochkie and husband John; also beloved great nieces and great nephews, Jamie Lawrence and wife Laura, Adam Lawrence, Tammy Boone Jamieson and husband Jeremy, David Boone and wife Danielle, Jimmy Hartley and wife Heather, Chris Hartley and wife Kaycee, Angela Hartley Bacha and husband Brad, Mark Gapen, Eric Gapen, and Matt Gapen; great-great-nieces and nephews, Zoe and Jacy Smochinsky, Jeremy and Jared Lawrence, Kayla Ayers, Jonathan and Joshua Ochkie, Gabby Boone, Olivia Lawrence, Levi Hartley, and Isabella and Amelia Hartley; and her good friend and caregiver Rose Brain.

Martha was a dedicated member of Masontown United Methodist Church, where she served on the church board, taught Sunday school classes, as well as participated in fundraising activities, such as furnishing the apples for their unforgettable apple dumplings.

She was a graduate of Masontown High School Class of 1944, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #263 Uniontown Chapter for 60 years. She retired from Sears after 35 years in sales, receiving many Outstanding Performance Awards over the years. Later she opened and operated Lardin's Personal Care Home where she gave loving care to many for over 12 years.

Although she had no children of her own, she was indeed a special mother to many. She is remembered by her family and many friends for her kind, generous, and gentle soul.

Friends will be received at the Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 515 N. Main St., Masontown, PA on Friday, August 19 from 4 pm until 8 pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 20 in the funeral home chapel at 11 am with Rev. mark R. Blair officiating.. Interment will be privately held at Masontown Cemetery.

The Order of the Eastern Star Uniontown Chapter # 263 will hold services at 7:30 pm on Friday.
