Marie Smargie, age 87, of Masontown, PA, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday January 2, 2012..



She was born August 9, 1924 in Masontown, Pa., a daughter of Owen Isaac and Bessie (Kerson) Hughes.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Nicholas Smargie, sisters; Helen Warman, Bessie June (Hughes) Shuba, Shirley McManus, brothers; Michael Hughes, Warren Hughes and a niece Joan Ellen Kalivoda.

Marie was a member of the Masontown United Methodist Church, she was the receptionist at The Kalivoda Dance Center in Masontown, Pa., for 15 years.



Left to cherish her memory is a brother Isaac "Zeke" Hughes, nieces & nephews Marlene Merkel and husband Bruce, Warren Hughes Jr. and wife Mary Ann, Mark Hughes and wife Karen, Cheryl Kalivoda and husband Richard, Sandy Stein and husband Robert, Michael Hughes and wife Mardee, Kim Van Pelt and husband Wayne, Debbie McManus-Phelps, Karl Kalivoda and many great nieces and great nephews.

Friends will be received in the Haky Funeral Home, Inc, 515 North Main St., Masontown, Pa. Thursday January 5, 2012 from 3-8 p.m. and Friday January 6, 2012,

until 11 a.m. the hour of service with Rev. Robert Stein and Rev. Scott Teets officiating.

Interment will follow in Masontown Cemetery, Masontown, PA.



In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations be made to Masontown United Methodist Church.
