Margaret died on January 12, 2012 at her home in Jefferson, PA,where she resided with her beloved niece, Ludmilla Caro. She was born on September 20, 1917 in Masontown to Vasili and MaryVargo Billak. Upon graduating from Masontown High School in 1935, she moved to New York City, where she worked and attended Barnard College. During WWII, she worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and was transferred to Long Beach California. The next 60 years of her life were spent in Southern California, where she married Francis Allen Robertson, her husband of 58 years. He predeceased her in 2004. Her life in California was very interesting, having worked for many years with Dean Witter, the owner of Dean Witter Reynolds in the stock brokerage business. She was a Golden Girl in the Democratic Party of California, friends with Ronald Reagan, while he was still a Democrat, Jerry Brown,the governor of California and many other interesting personalities. Margaret was proud of her friendship with Lloyd C. Douglas, the author of "The Robe",Archibald Cox, the solicitor general for President John F. Kennedy and the special prosecutor for the Watergate Scandal, and internationally renowned artist, Texana. Margaret was also a world traveler.
While Margaret and Allen had no children of their own, they were committed to providing an education for their great nieces and nephews. They established the Margaret and Allen Robertson-- Billak Family Education Trust which provided funding to many, many heirs of the Billak family who pursued higher education.
Margaret is survived by her sister Julia of Detroit, Michigan as well as many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews located throughout the country. She is predeceased by her brothers, Charles, Michael and John and sisters, Mary Billak Sharkady, Anna Billak Caro, Sophia Billak Laucher and Francis Billak Williams.
Family and friends will be received at the HAKY FUNERAL HOME, INC. 515 North Main Street, Masontown, PA 15461, from 2-5 on Sunday, January 15, 2012.
A Trisagion service will be held at 4:30 PM at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2012 at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, 309 South Washington Street, Masontown, PA 15401, with Rev. Fr. Dimitre Angelor Dimitrov as celebrant.
Interment will be held at St. Mary Russian Orthodox Cemetery.
