Margaret (Barrish) Russo, 93, of Masontown, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Mount Macrina Manor. She was born on July 14, 1922 in Mt. Sterling, PA, daughter of Gabriel and Josephine (Shine) Barrish.
Margaret was the last surviving member of her immediate family, preceded in death by her parents, husband, Pete R. Russo on March 21, 1997, and brothers and sisters, Ann Malinsky, Mary Bogucki, Josephine Peary, Kathryn Barrish, Louis Barrish, Frank Barrish, Rose Fedorchek, Michael Barrish, Helen Valentich, and Martin Barrish.
For 20 years Margaret and her husband owned and operated Masontown Hardware. She belonged to Our Lady of Perpetual Help St. Mary Parish in Leckrone, and later St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Masontown. She was a member of the Italian Ladies Circle, and loved to play Bocci. Also, she was a major supporter, fundraiser, and volunteer for the Masontown Little League.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Russo and wife Betty of Carmichaels, daughter, Deborah Hlebinsky and husband Robert of Masontown; grandchildren, Jeff and Marianne Russo of Carmichaels, Renee Caldwell of Carmichaels, KellyAnn and Conor Hawking of Pittsburgh; great grandchildren, Elan and Jovie Caldwell, and Sophia Hawking; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 515 N. Main St., Masontown, PA, on Monday, February 29, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.; and on Tuesday, March 1, until 9:30 a.m. when prayers of transfer will be said.
The Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Masontown PA, with Rev. Father William G. Berkey as celebrant.
Interment will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help St. Mary Cemetery, Leckrone,
