Louis A. Giachetti, Sr., 89, of Uniontown, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 28, 2015. He was born in Uniontown on October 27, 1925, son of the late Pasquale and Carmella (Delrusso) Giachetti.

In addition to his parents, Lou was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Carmela Georgina (Vellucci) Giachetti, brothers, John, Nicholas, Patsy, Jerry, Carmen, and Fred Giachetti, Sr.; and a sister, Helen Fortugna Faverio.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Louis Giachetti, Jr. and wife Cathie, Vincent Giachetti and wife Pam, and Michael "Cricket" Giachetti and wife Dollie; grandchildren, Nikki Giachetti Stephenson and husband Justin, Erin Giachetti Erjavek and husband Robert, Andrea Giachetti King and husband Jason, Amanda Giachetti, and Michael Giachetti; great-grandchildren, Bria Stephenson, Gianna Stephenson, Robert Justin "R.J." Stephenson, and Clara Jane King; a sister, Rose Sopkovec; many nieces and nephews and their families.

Lou retired from the City of Uniontown where he served as a Police Officer for 20 years, and Dispatcher and Code Enforcement Officer for a further 10 years.

He served in United States Army during W.W.II. conflict in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations on the islands of Guam, Tinan, and Saipan, with the Units of Headquarters Battery, 69th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Group; and the 452nd Engr. Depot Company transporting supplies. He served at the rank of T/Sgt., then M/Sgt. During the Korean Conflict he served his country at the rank of Sgt. 1st Class. He was awarded the following medals and ribbons during his service to his country: Army Good Conduct Medal and Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, National Defense Medal and Ribbon, Victory WWII Medal and Ribbon, Presidental Unit Citation,Medal, and Marksman Badge and Rifle Bar.

Lou belonged to St.Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church. He was active in many fraternal organizations, and also all local veterans Military Funeral Honor Guards. He was Parade Marshall for Americanism Day, Veterans Day, and the Halloween Parade for 45 years. He also served as the Master of Ceremonies for Memorial Day Services at Sylvan Heights Cemetery. He was a Life Member of the American Legion Post 51 of 66 years, where he served as Commander for several terms, American Legion Fayette County Past Commander, American Legion 24th District Past Deputy Commander, Uniontown V.F.W Post 47-now resolved, Life member of the AMVETS Post 103 Military Honor Guard, Catholic War Veterans Post 1669 -3 year Trustee, Life Member Knights of Columbus Albert Gallatin Assembly 4th Degree Sir Knight, Life Member of the United War Veterans Association-Commander for 12 years, the Fraternal Order of Eagles -Past Worthy President, and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge # 55

Friends will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Wednesday, July 1 from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, July 2, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.; and on Friday, July 3 until 8:45 a.m. when he will be remembered in Eulogy. Prayers of Transfer will follow at 9:15 a.m.

The Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. on Friday in St. Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, 61 Mill St., Uniontown, PA, with Msgr. Michael W. Matusak as Celebrant. Interment will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Connellsville, PA, where military honors will be accorded by North Union VFW Post 8543 and former VFW Post 47 Uniontown.

The Parish Wake Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. The AMVETS Post 103 will stand Honor Guard on Wednesday evening. The Catholic War Veteran Post 1669 will stand Honor Guard on Thursday evening at 7 p. m. Albert Gallatin Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will stand Honor Guard Thursday from 7-8 p.m.

Louis A. Giachetti was a proud man, who devoted his life to God, Family, and to his Country.
