Lawrence J. “Larnie” Tajc, 77, of West Lafayette, Indiana, formerly of Hopwood, Pennsylvania, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Mulberry Health in Mulberry, Indiana.
Larnie was born on October 14, 1948, to the late John and Frances (Plachko) Tajc. A 1966 graduate of North Union High School, he spent most of his life in Hopwood, where he built a lifetime of memories with family and friends.
On July 29, 1971, Larnie began his career with the Pennsylvania State Police. He proudly served for nearly 30 years, retiring as a Corporal on August 4, 2000. He remained a member of the Pennsylvania State Police Retirees Association.
His faith and service to his church were also important parts of his life. Larnie was a longtime member of Saint Joseph Church in Uniontown, where he served on the Pastoral Council and as a church usher. After moving to West Lafayette, he became a member of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament and the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 8056.
Larnie was dependable, hardworking, and always willing to lend a hand. Before grocery delivery was commonplace, he delivered groceries from the family business, Adrian’s Market, primarily to elderly customers. His weekly visits were something they looked forward to, and he often carried their groceries inside and put them away.
After moving to Indiana to be closer to his family, Larnie especially enjoyed the time he spent with his grandsons, Rocco and Mikey. They brought him great joy, and he cherished being part of their lives and watching them grow.
He was meticulous and took great pride in doing things well, especially when it came to his inground pool in Hopwood. For many years, the pool was a favorite gathering place for family and the setting for countless summer memories.
Larnie loved to golf, tell stories, and give very detailed directions. He and Mary shared many special memories over their 54 years together, including a memorable trip to Poland.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Chesler) Tajc; son, Michael Tajc and wife Shannon, and grandsons, Rocco and Mikey, all of West Lafayette, Indiana; sister, Therese Tajc of Uniontown; brothers, Ronald (Carol) Tajc and Richard (Debra) Tajc, both of Uniontown; sister-in-law, Kathleen Tajc of Pittsburgh; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Monica (Karl) Vent; brother, Raymond Tajc; infant sister, Mary Tajc; nephew, Brian Tajc; and niece, Jessica Erb.
Larnie will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was proud of his work, his faith, his family, and the people he was able to help along the way. His stories, love of golf, attention to detail, and the many memories shared with family will be deeply missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph Church, 180 Old Walnut Hill Road, Uniontown, PA 15401. Interment will follow at Mount Saint Macrina Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wabash Center (Camp #54 in the memo), 1500 Salem Street, Lafayette, Indiana 47904.
