Lawrence E. "Larry" Frankhouser

In the early hours of August 13, 2013, Lawrence E. Frankhouser succumbed to cancer. Larry was born on June 27, 1938 to Guy and Frances Pence Frankhouser in Weston W.V.
Larry graduated from South Union High School with the Class of 1956. After graduating, Larry served in the U.S. Army. He also attended Waynesburg Center and Pennsylvania State University, Fayette Campus.
Larry had many interests and was very active in the community. He was a member of the South Union Township Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years and served as treasurer for many of those years. He belonged to the Uniontown Rotary Club for 36 years and was a Paul Harris Fellow as well as a member of the Hopwood AMVETS Post 103. Larry also served as the president of the Uniontown Country Club and was a member of Third Presbyterian Church.
Real Estate was a significant part of Larry's life. He had been a member of the National Association of Realtors since 1970 as well as being a licensed Real Estate Broker and Real Estate Appraiser since 1973. Starting in 1981, Larry was the owner/broker of the Freed Dorazio Agency, then the Century 21 Frankhouser Agency, Inc. until 2010. He served as the president of the Fayette Board of Realtors and was named Realtor of the Year. He was a certified General PA Appraiser from 1991 to 2013. In addition to his career as a broker and agent, Larry taught real estate courses at Pennsylvania State University, Fayette Campus for over 20 years.
However, golf was one of his greatest loves after his family. During his golfing career Larry had 2 holes in one, won the Uniontown Country Club (UCC) Oldsmobile Scramble and won the chance to play in the Oldsmobile Scramble in Orlando, Florida with three other golfers on the team. He won the UCC President's Cup three times and the First Flight Championship at UCC. Larry also was on the Rider Cup Team at UCC and was on the two-man team that won the championship in 2005.
Larry's life revolved around his family. He was a loving and supportive husband for 47 years to Dorothy Markutsa Frankhouser and father to Jennifer Smith and Eric Frankhouser as well as a beloved father-in-law to Eric Smith and Amy Frankhouser. He was the proud Pap of twin granddaughters Kylie and Brailey Frankhouser who could always make him laugh even when he felt horrible from his illness. He is also survived by his brothers Thomas, Butch, and Donald Frankhouser as well as dozens of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
Larry was predeceased by his mother Frances, his father Guy, his maternal grandparents, Walter and Elizabeth Pence, and his sister Geraldine Frankhouser Chuck.
The family would like to give special thanks to Hap and Marlene Denny, Russ Mechling, and John Kanchi for their support throughout Larry's illness. We would also like to thank Amedisys Home Health Care for the many compassionate and caring nurses who helped Larry and Dorothy this year.
Friends will be received at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, August 15, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.; and Friday, August 16, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. when Rev. Chris Enoch will conduct funeral services at the funeral home chapel.
Interment will be at Mount Saint Macrina Cemetery where military honorarium will be accorded by AMVETS Post 103.
The South Union Volunteer Fire Department will hold services on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m.
