Julia Catherine Marconi, age 95, a thirty year resident of Washington D.C., passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at the Glade Valley Center in Walkersville MD.
Julia, born December 25, 1920 in Gray's Landing, PA, was the daughter of the late Pio and Anna Valeri Marconi. She is preceded in death by four sisters, Norma Milo, Bertha Shrieve, Lena Mary George, Gertrude Glasser, and four brothers, Edward, Cecil, Orlando, and John Marconi.
Julia began her career in the workforce in 1937 at age 17, working at the Burkowitz Shirt Factory. Julia spent 45 years working for the federal government, earning the Gallant Award for her 45 years of service. She spent 21 years as an administrative assistant for the IRS division at the American Embassy in Rome, Italy. After retiring from the government, Julia worked for Kelly Services, receiving the Employee of the Year Award in 1999. She retired in 2009.
Julia traveled extensively throughout Europe. She visited the Holy Land and walked in the footsteps of Jesus, and visited the grave of the Holy Mary in Turkey. Julia always put others first. She spent her life caring for others. She was a devoted parishoner of St. Patrick's in Washington D.C., always lighting candles and praying for the sick.
She was loved and cherished by a large extended family and many dear friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, 603 North Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, PA where friends with be received on Sunday, July 24 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Prayers of Transfer will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, July 25 at Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, followed by the Funeral Mass celebrating her life at 10 a.m. at St. Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, 61 Mill St., Uniontown. Interment will be held at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown immediately following the mass.
The Parish Wake Service will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m.
