Joseph E. Yakubec's Obituary
Joseph E. Yakubec, Jr., 75, of Masontown, PA, died on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on March 26, 1940 in Ronco, PA, son of the late Joseph E. Yakubec, Sr. and Erma (Nagy) Yakubec. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, John "Jack" Yakubec and James "Jimmy" Yakubec.
Joseph was a lifelong member of the former Our Lady of Perpetual Help St. Mary R. C. Church, Leckrone, now St. Francis of Assisi Parish of Masontown. He was a graduate of German Township High School Class of 1958, and proudly served his country during the Bay of Pigs with in the United States Marine Corp.
He was a Coal Miner retired from the Dilworth Mine, member of U.M.W.A District # 2, and member of the Faith-Gray-McArdle VFW Post 4584, where he served on the Military Honors Firing Detail. He was affectionately known as "Jr." by his family and many friends.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 49 years, Patricia "Patty" (West) Yakubec; their children, Yvonne Rafter and husband Mark of Smock, PA, Joseph Yakubec, III. and wife
Mary of Markleysburg, PA, Amy Dawson of Masontown, PA, and Michael Yakubec of Masontown, PA; eight grandchildren, Samantha Rafter, Alanna Rafter, Rebecca Rafter, Gordon Arnold, Lydia Yakubec, Jessica Yakubec, Laila Simons, and Brooke Yakubec; a great grandson, Mark Ellsworth, Jr.; a sister, Helena Alexander of Bruceton Mills, WV; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 515 N. Main St., Masontown, PA, today (Thursday) May 14 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.; and on Friday, May 15 until 9:30 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.
The Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 101 S. Washington St., Masontown, with Rev. Father William G. Berkey as Celebrant. Interment will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help St. Mary Cemetery, Leckrone, PA, where military honors will be accorded by Faith-Gray-McArdle VFW Post 4584.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 4584, Masontown, PA.
