Obituary

Joseph Eugene Skala, 89 of Smithfield passed away on Friday September 29, 2023 at Mt. St. Macrina Manor. Born August 8, 1934 in German Township, son of the late Ralph and Mary (Porvaznick) Skala. Beloved husband of Mary Ann (Marva) Skala. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul, Ralph, John, Andrew, and Louis Skala and his sisters Ann Chetosky, Mary Holob and Margaret Bartyczak. In addition to his wife Mary Ann, he is survived by his children Robert (Jennifer) Skala, Joseph Skala Jr. and Michael (Mary) Skala, his grandsons Andrew, Samuel and Grant Skala, his sister Pauline Ozanich and brother Stephen Skala, his godchildren Erin Kuchno, Melissa Fuller and Terri Kuehmier and several nieces and nephews. Joseph served in the Air Force during the Korean War, he worked as a welder/electrician at Fruehauf and was a member of St. Joseph Church of Uniontown, the First Catholic Slovak and loved to polka dance. He was a loving father, husband and grandfather. The family would like to thank the staff of Mt St. Macrina manor and Amedysis for the care they gave Joe. Visitation at Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext. Uniontown on Monday from 2-6PM. A Blessing Service on Tuesday at 10:00 AM in the funeral home and burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Leckrone, PA where military honors will be accorded.
