Obituary

Joseph B. Pompura, 88, of Lemont Furnace, Pa., died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Good Samaritan House, Wexford, Pa. He was born on May 18, 1930 in Dearth, Pa., son of the late Michael J. and Anna Mary (Voytko) Pompura. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a son, Edward John Pompura; brothers, Mike, Peter, Frank, and John; sisters, Margaret Sheba, and Stephanie Kremposky.

At age 16 he began working for A & P Market, and then during the Korean War proudly served his country in the United States Army guarding the Alaskan border from 1955 until 1957. After he was honorably discharged, he returned to Uniontown, managing

A & P Market and later World Importing Market. After working as Manager for Foodland stores, he retired at age 65, enjoying time spent with his wife Bernie, their grandchildren and wonderful friends.

Joe was a lifelong member of St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church of Uniontown, and also enjoyed attending Mass at St. Anthony Friary. He was a kind and thoughtful man, wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life, wife of 65 years, Bernadine Joann (Gmiter) Pompura; their children, Karen Kapel and husband John, Denise Filiaggi and husband Eugene, Michael Pompura and wife Lisa; beloved grandchildren, Billi Nairn, Rachel Filiaggi, Christina Filiaggi, and Lauren Filiaggi; great grandchildren, Jacob Hurd, Drew Hurd, Micah Hurd, and Lucas Hurd; a brother George Pompura; sisters, Anne Helisek, Mary Hunter, Josephine Franks, and Patty Androsky; dear brothers and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, Pa. today (Tuesday) October 23, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.; and until 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24, when Prayers of Transfer will be said.

The Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, in St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, 61 N. Mt. Vernon Ave., Uniontown, PA., with Rev. Father Anthony J. Klimko as celebrant.

Following Committal Prayers, and military honors accorded by George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103, entombment will be privately held at Sylvan Heights Cemetery Chapel of Memories Mausoleum.

The Parish Wake Service led by the Lazarus Ministry will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, at 3 p.m.
