Obituary

Joseph Holonich, age 90, formerly of Edenborn, PA, died suddenly on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 in Olney, Maryland. He was born on October 20, 1920 in Edenborn, PA, son of John and Anna (Bolas) Holonich.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marie A. "Babe" (Cavalcante) Holonich, brothers, Andrew "Bozo" Holonich, George "Geech" Holonich, John "Skinny" Holonich, and a sister, Margaret Kingora.

Joe was affectionately known as "Chubby" by his family and many friends. He was a devoted member at St. Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, Uniontown, PA, where he served as an Usher for many years.

During WWII, he proudly served his country with the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division Paratroopers, in the European Theatre of Operations.

He was a retired coal miner and member of UMWA, a Life Member of the Fort Mason American Legion Post 423, Masontown. He was also a Life Member and Past Treasurer for 20 years at the Edenborn Volunteer Fire Department.

Surviving are two children, a son, Joseph J. Holonich and wife Carolyn of Olney, MD, with whom he recently made his home; a daughter, Carmella Holonich Priches and husband Ken of Florida; four grandchildren, Kathleen Marie Holonich, Stephen Joseph Holonich, Matthew James Holonich, and Kristen Michele Holonich, all of Olney, MD; a brother, Michael "Spook" Holonich and wife Mary of Carmichaels, PA; a sister, Anna Marie Stunja of Edenborn, PA; a sister-in-law, Millie Cavalcante of Masontown, PA; and seven nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the Haky Funeral Home, Inc, 515 North Main St., Masontown, PA, on Sunday from 7-9 p.m., Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.; and on Tuesday until 9 a.m,. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 in St. Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, 61 Mill St., Uniontown, PA, with Monsignor Michael W. Matusak as Celebrant.

Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Masontown, PA, where military honors will be accorded by Faith-Gray-McArdle VFW Post 423.

The Parish Wake Service will be held on Monday afternoon at 3 p.m.

The Edenborn VFD will hold a Memorial Service on Monday evening at 7 p.m.
