John K. Thorpe, 78, of Smock, PA., died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, April 18, 2013. He was born on June 30, 1934, in Dunbar, PA., son of the late William and Rebecca (Smitley) Thorpe.
Prior to retirement, John worked in the steel industry. He was a member of the New Life Free Methodist Church in Smock, PA.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Thorpe; an infant daughter, Renee Thorpe; a grandson, Chad Thorpe; and eleven siblings. John was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
John is survived by his three children, Cynthia Trimmer and husband Douglas, of Smock, PA., Thomas Thorpe and wife Judy of Perryopolis, PA and William K. Thorpe and wife Sandy of Smock, PA.; seven grandchildren; Stacey Griffin, Kenny Trimmer, Danny Thorpe, Jessica Thorpe, Tim Thorpe, Courtney Thorpe and Ashley Kochis; ten great grandchildren, with an eleventh great grandchild on the way; a loving friend Annamae Hough of Normalville, PA., and many loving nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, and again on Monday, April 22, 2013 from 10-11 AM, the hour of service with Rev. Ken Walls officiating.
Interment will immediately follow in Mt. Auburn cemetery located in Dunbar, PA.
