John Anthony Marva's Obituary
John Anthony Marva, age 85 of Uniontown, PA, passed into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, March 20, 2011, while in the Uniontown Hospital.
He was born on October 14, 1925 in Brownfield, PA, son of the late Andrew and Susie (Borch) Marva. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife Ethel Y. (Detweiler) Marva, brothers, Edward and Andrew Marva, and sisters, Ann Hopfl and Helen Grimm.
During WWII, John proudly served his country with the United States Navy, at the rank of Fireman First Class. He was an avid gardener, and could build or repair just about anything, and taught all of his children these trades.
He was a great Dad, and was happy spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
John was a Coal Miner for 32 years, retired from Maple Creek Mine. He was a member of St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, UMWA, Life Member of George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103, Life Member of Hutchinson Sportsman's Club, and VFW Post 47.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, William A. Marva, MaryAnn Fisher and husband John, Daniel Marva and wife Tammy, Veronica S. Marva, and Dawn L. Zekir and husband James with whom he made his home, all of Uniontown, PA; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Marva and wife Donna of Windber, PA; and a sister, Mary Schumacher of Sayville, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, today (Tuesday) and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.; and on Thursday, March 24, until 9:15 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday in St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, 61 N. Mt. Vernon Ave., Uniontown, PA, with Rev. Father Stephen R. Bugay as Celebrant.
Interment will follow at Mount Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, PA, where military honors will be accorded by AMVETS Post 103.
The Parish Wake Service will held on Wednesday, at 3:30 p.m.
