John Joseph Evans, 76, of Kimberly Drive, Uniontown, PA, died peacefully at home on Thursday, November 14, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 7, 1937 in Uniontown, son of Joseph G. and Lillian (Stockton) Evans.
His parents; two brothers, Joseph G. Evans, Rudy Evans; a sister, Veronica (Evans) Yeagley; and a sister-in-law, Anna Shiner preceded him in death.
John was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Uniontown, and was a graduate of North Union High School Class of 1956. During peacetime he served his country with the U.S. Army. For 38 years he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Chardon, OH. He was also a member of Hutchinson Sportsman's Club, Hopwood.
John retired from Sun Oil Company in Ohio, where he was a Transport Driver. Prior to that, he had been employed with the former Moss Supermarket of Uniontown.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of fifty-three years, Stella (Shiner) Evans; a sister, Shirley Haragos Nelson of California; a brother, Paul Evans and wife Trudy of Uniontown, PA; two brothers-in-law, Stanley R. Shiner, Jr., and Anthony M. Shiner, both of Uniontown, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
With deep appreciation, the family thanks the nurses and caregivers of Amedysis Hospice for their outstanding care and compassion during John's final days.
Friends will be received at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Sunday, November 17, from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m.; and Monday, November 18, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m.
A Blessing Service will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Father James W. Clark Officiating.
Private interment will be held at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, PA.
