John J. Grenda, age 92, of Masontown, PA, died on Monday, April 25, 2011 at the Leesburg Regional Medical Center, Florida. He was born on November 7, 1918 in Edenborn, PA, son of Jakob and Maryana (Kosal) Grzeda.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Teresa (Merti) Grenda; three sisters, Mary, Sophie,and Wanda; and two brothers, Walter and William.

John proudly served his country during World War II with the United States Army in the European Theater of Operations, at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a Maintenance Foreman at Robena Mine and also operated a Commercial Refrigeration Repair Business until he retired.

He was a member of All Saints Roman Catholic Church, where he served as an Usher for many years. For six years, he also managed Little League Baseball in Masontown.

Left to cherish his memory are two sons, John Grenda and wife Pamela of Egg Harbour, NJ, and Ed Grenda and wife Amy of Gambrills, MD; two grandchildren, Jennifer Caldwell of Winston Salem, NC, and Sarah Hoover of Vail, AZ; three great-grandchildren, Emma Claire Hoover, Holden Caldwell, and John Caldwell; and a sister Violet Jean Shanley of Pittsburgh, PA.

Friends will be received at the Haky Funeral Home, Inc, 515 North Main St., Masontown, PA, on Sunday, May 1, from 5-8 p.m., and also on Monday, May 2, from 8:30- 9:30 a.m., when Prayers of Transfer will be said at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. in All Saints Roman Catholic Church, 101 S. Washington St., Masontown, PA, with Rev. Father James F. Bump as Celebrant.

Entombment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery Chapel of Memories Mausoleum, Uniontown, PA, where military honors will be accorded by AMVETS Post 103.
