Joan Ellen (Hughes) Kalivoda, age 53, of Masontown, PA, passed away on Thursday October 27, 2011 in the Ruby Memorial Hospital..



She was born August 12, 1958 in Morgantown, WV, a daughter of John "Clark" and Bessie June (Hughes) Shuba.



She was Owner & Operator of The Kalivoda Dance Center in Masontown, Pa., her love of dance touched and influenced so many children over the past 25 years. Joan was friend, teacher and inspiration to a generation of young dancers in her community. Joan was a member of the Masontown United Methodist Church, a member of the United Dance Merchants Association.



Left to cherish her memory is her husband Karl Kalivoda, daughter Lindsey Kalivoda-Hartley and husband David, a sister Marlene Markel and husband Bruce, Brother in-law Frank Kalivoda and wife Kyu, and their children, brother in-law Ronald Kalivoda, brother in-law Richard Kalivoda and wife Cheryl, Sister in-law Mary Jordan and husband Jerry, nieces Patricia Hawthorne, Madison Hawthorne and nephews Bryan Hawthorne and Richard Merkel she was also survived by her Aunt Marie Smargie and Uncle Isaac Hughes and her extended Dance Center Family.

Friends will be received in the Haky Funeral Home, Inc, 515 North Main St., Masontown, Pa. Monday October 31, 2011 from 2-8 p.m. and Tuesday November 1, 2011 until 11 a.m. the hour of service with Rev. Robert Stein officiating.

Interment will follow in Masontown Cemetery, Masontown, PA.
