Jeanette Roman
(Ritz)
Sep 13, 1917 — Dec 15, 2017
Jeanette Roman, 100, of Ellicott City, Maryland passed away peacefully on December 15, 2017. She was born on September 13, 1917 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to Nick and Elizabeth (Amendola) Ritz and lived there for much of her life. She graduated from Uniontown High School in 1935.
She is survived by three children Edward (Lucretia) Motsco, Shirley Tressler, and Anthony (Joan) Motsco; nine grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mildred Federici, her brothers, Louis Ritz and Joseph Ritz, as well as her son Nicholas Motsco and her son-in-law George Tressler.
Jeanette was so small at birth that the midwife did not expect her to live and, therefore, did not issue a birth certificate – how ironic that she should live to be 100 years old! Jeanette was always interested in politics and fighting for what she believed in. As a young mother, her children had to walk a great distance to and from school, so she started a petition and succeeded in getting a school bus to pick up the children living in her neighborhood. She later worked to improve services for her neighbors at Owen Brown Place in Columbia, Maryland, where she was instrumental in bringing voting booths to the building to make it easier for senior citizens to vote.
She had a great sense of humor and will be missed by her family, friends, and caregivers at her assisted living facility.
A Blessing Service will be at 2 p.m on Friday, May 4, 2018 in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, Pa., with Rev. Father James D. Tringhese officiating.
Interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery.
