He also attended Penn State University Fayette Campus. James owned and operated New Atlas Development Corp. for over thirty nine years in addition to being a serial entrepreneur his entire life.

James was a big man with a big brain and an even bigger heart. He was curious and well-versed in many obscure topics. James was a master tinkerer, music lover, loyal trusted friend, headstrong but selfless and you could always find him spending his time helping those around him. His greatest joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Grant Shumar of Uniontown; daughter, Ashley Shumar Stewart and husband Robert Stewart of Utah; son, Zachary James Shumar of Uniontown; three grandchildren, Jane Raquel, Emma Anne, and Remy James Stewart; eight siblings, George Shumar and wife Carol, Mary Jo Palaisa and husband Donald, Helen Evans, Madalyn Johnson, Anthony Shumar and wife Barbara, Robert Shumar and companion Anita Hadden, Barbara Walker and husband William, and Kenneth Shumar and wife Diana; brother in law, Richard Ferchak; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends, local and far and wide.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, John Shumar, William Thomas Shumar, Patrick Shumar and infant Wilma Jean Shumar.
