John Michael Faris, 87, formerly of Smithfield, passed away at his home in Boca Raton, Florida on May 24, 2016, after a long illness. With him at the time was his wife of 66 years, Goldie (Bowlen) Faris, and family.
John was born on May 12, 1929, in Uniontown, the son of the late John and Sophia (Antoon) Faris, Jr. His siblings were Mary Margaret (who died in infancy), James, Ronald, Arleen Wilson and Richard.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children, Chorbishop John D. Faris, James and Randi (Weitzen) Faris, Connie Faris Winch, Brian and Richelle (Manges) Faris, Christy and her husband Steven Papp, Shawn J. Faris, and grandchildren, Toni Marie, Derrick, Josephine, Briana, Maxine, Sophia and Scott Michael. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Ronald, sons, Ronald and Scott, and son-in-law, Patrick Winch.
John was an extraordinarily hard worker and businessman in southwestern Pennsylvania and south Florida, doing demolition and construction work and earning the nicknames of "Uncle Demo" and "Sod Father."
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 2 from 4-8 pm at the Haky Funeral Home, 603 North Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown, PA 15401. During the Visitation, there will be recitation of the Rosary at 4 pm and the Incense Service led by Father Sami Chaaya, MLM at 6 pm. The Divine Liturgy for the Faithful Departed will be celebrated on Friday, June 3 at 10 am at Saint George Maronite Church, 6 Lebanon Terrace, Uniontown, PA 15401. Chorbishop John D. Faris will preside.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Saint George Church 6 Lebanon Terrace, Uniontown, PA 15401 or to Saint Louis Gonzaga Church, Rutger St., Utica, NY.
