Obituary

James Frank Collins, age 89 of Lemont Furnace, PA died on Thursday, December 19, 2013 in Highlands Hospital, Connellsville, PA.

He was born on December 7, 1924 in Youngstown, PA the son of the late Frank and Eva (Rapson) Collins.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp during WWII. He was a member of the Mt. View Christian Church in Percy, PA, formerly known as the Fairview United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee and usher for many years. He was also a member of the North Union VFW Post 8543.

Prior to his retirement, Jim was a plumber for the Blair Plumbing & Heating Co. He was very active in little league baseball during the 1960s and 1970s serving as manager for the Lemont and Monaco teams in the Dunbar Little League. In addition, he was a manager for the Fairview Church League. Jim enjoyed playing ball as well as managing. He played softball for the Fayette County Senior League until he was 78 years old. Jim was also an avid hunter and was at his happiest when on hunting trips with his close friends and family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice Fern Collins in 1997, twin granddaughters, Alison and Becca; and his brother, William John Collins.

Jim is survived by his loving children, James T. Collins and his wife Brenda of Mt. Braddock, Jeffrey Collins and wife Mona of Lemont Furnace, Douglas Collins and wife Kathy of Connellsville, John Collins and wife Marcia of Lemont Furnace, and Mark Collins and wife LeAnn of Lemont Furnace; grandchildren: Chris Collins and wife Katie, Megan Collins, Andrea and Kelly Collins, Zachary and Tanner Collins, Kevin Collins, and Adam Collins and wife Arianna; great-grandchildren: Luke Kalivoda, Ethan Frazee, and Owen Collins; his dear sister, Sylvia Welsh of Streetsboro, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, 603 N. Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown, PA on Friday, December 20, 2013 from 2 to 8 PM, and Saturday, December 21, until 11 AM, the hour of service with Reverend Roger Richter officiating.
Interment will follow in La Fayette Memorial Park in Brier Hill, PA.
