Ira Redmond Jr., age 91, of Uniontown, PA, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2011, with his family by his side. He was born on September 8, 1920, in Braznell, PA. Ira was the son of the late Ira Redmond Sr. and Stella (Gaskill) Redmond.
Ira was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #47 and member of the Honor Guard for many years, Life Member of the American Legion Post #51, Life Member of AMVETS Post #103, and member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 354.
Ira proudly served his country during WWII with the United States Army, and was fought in battles in Western Europe, Normany, and France, receiving Five Bronze Battlestars.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jean Geary and husband Randy of Masontown, PA.; a granddaughter, Amanda Geary of Masontown, PA.; and a sister-in-law, Louise "Curly" Redmond.
Ira was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosemary (Hagan) Redmond; and four siblings, Norman Redmond, Otis Redmond, Elsie Fedder, and Ewing "Pappy" Redmond.
Friends will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Monday, October 10, 2011 from 7-9 PM, Tuesday, October 11, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, and Wednesday, October 12 until 11:00AM, the Hour of Service with Pastor Nicholas Beatty officiating.
Interment will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, PA, where military honors will be accorded by the VFW Post 47 and American Legion Post 51.
