Obituary

Herbert K. "Herb" King, Sr., 89, of Uniontown, PA, died on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at home. He was born on March 16, 1923 in Uniontown, PA, son of Leonard and Mildred (Haines) King.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Agnes J. (Swenglish) King in 1996; sister Lillian Roger, brother, Ray S. King, and two infant brothers.

Herb was a member of St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, and American Legion Post 51. For over 20 years he served on the Uniontown Area School Board.

He retired from West Penn Power Company were he was a Lineman for 33 years.

He proudly served his country during WWII with the United States Army 102 3rd Engineers Treadway Bridge Company in the European, African, Middle Eastern, and Asiatic Theater of Operations at the rank of Corporal.

Surviving are his children, Herbert K. King, Jr. and wife Carleen of Little River, SC; Ann M. Valusek and husband Michael of McClellandtown, PA; Gregory F. King; Agnes M. Spooner and husband Armand; and Mitzie S. King-Nehls, all of Uniontown, PA; and Jane M. Gilchrist and husband Brian of Belle Vernon, PA; 14 grandchildren; Lori Evans, Jennifer Semsey, Jeffrey King, Joshua King, Michelle Proden, Audra Kaprive, Stacey Thomas, Gregory J. King, Breanne King Burkett, Derrick Spooner, Cory Spooner, Jarrod Nehls, Kelsey Gilchrist, and Kaylee Gilchrist; 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Ida McClain, Betty Barker, Edith Call, a brother, Harold King; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Friday, November 30, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m.; and on Saturday, December 1, until 9:30 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.

The Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. on Saturday in St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, 61 N. Mt. Vernon Ave., Uniontown, PA, with Rev. Father Stephen R. Bugay as Celebrant.

Interment will be held at Mount Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, PA, where military honors will be accorded at graveside by American Legion Post 51 and VFW.

The Parish Wake Service will be held on Friday at 3:30 p.m. Our Lady of Perpetual Help St. Mary Rosary Society of Leckrone,will recite the Rosary on Friday evening at 7 p.m.
