Helen B. (Zywan) Zilla, age 93 of Uniontown, PA, formerly of Springdale, PA, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016 with her loving family at her side.
She was born in Logans Ferry, PA on August 28, 1922, daughter of John and Anna (Hutnyk) Zywan. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family; preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph E. Zilla, Sr. in 2012; three brothers, Michael Zywan, Andrew Zywan, and Joseph Zywan; and two sisters, Mary Tutak, and Dorothy Strawoet.
Helen was a graduate of Springdale High School Class of 1940. Before dedicating her life to her family as a wife and mother, she worked in the offices of the Alcoa Company.
Originally a member of St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church in Springdale, PA, Helen has been a member of St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church since relocating to Uniontown in 1970
Her family meant the world to her, and many happy memories of family get- togethers ended with her words "Love & Kisses". She loved to travel, and enjoyed gardening. She was a member of St. Mary's Golden Club, was an avid bowler and long time member of the Manor Lanes GEMS League.
Surviving are her children, Joseph E. Zilla, Jr. and wife Lori of McMurray, PA, Dennis A. Zilla and wife Debra of New Castle, PA, Susan Lucas and husband Lynn of Connellsville, PA, and Thomas P. Zilla and wife Denise of Hollidaysburg, PA; grandchildren, Andrew Zilla, Steven Lucas, Laura Stackhouse and husband Brett, Amy Lucas, and Jordan Zilla; a great granddaughter, Sophia Rose Stackhouse, dear sister-in-law, Helen Strama of Springdale, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
Helen always had a smile for her family, friends, and caregivers. She will always be cherished in the hearts of her family. "Love & Kisses" to you Mom.
Friends will be received at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Sunday, February 21, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.; and on Monday morning, February 22, until 9:15 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.
The Funeral Mass will follow on Monday in St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, 61 N. Mount Vernon Ave., Uniontown, PA, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Father Peter L. Peretti and her nephew, Rev. Father Paul Zywan as celebrants.
Interment will be held at Lakewood Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Cheswick, PA, where committal prayers will begin at 1 p.m.
The Parish Wake Service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 4 p.m.
Family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Mary Nativity R.C. Church or a favorite charity.
