George Ferens, age 81, of Uniontown, PA, died on Monday January 2, 2012 at the Uniontown Hospital. He was born on May 5, 1930 in Connellsville, PA, son of the late Frank and Mary Ferens.
He was also preceded in death by his wife Lorna "Lou" Marie (Wright) Yacubovich Ferens; son, David Yacubovich; and a brother Frank Ferens.
George was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, and retired from Anchor-Hocking. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, and member of the American Legion Post 51, North Union VFW 8543, George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103, Knights of Columbus, and the Catholic War Veterans.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Peter Yacubovich and wife Sharon, Mary Rhodes and husband Randall, and Joseph Ferens and wife Sunni; six grandchildren, Ryan Ferens, Skylar Ferens, Lucas Ferens, David Yacubovich, II., Nicole Yacubovich, and Jill Yacubovich; a sister, Bertha Muchnok, and a brother, Albert Ferens.
Friends will be received at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Wednesday, January 4, from 7-9 p.m.; Thursday, January 5, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.; and on Friday, January 6, 2012 until 11 a.m. when a Panachida Service will be held.
The Divine Liturgy will follow at 11:30 a.m. on Friday in St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, with Rev. Father Ronald P. Larko as Celebrant.
Interment will be held at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, PA where military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 51.
The Parastas Service will be held on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
The Knights of Columbus Color Guard Assembly # 926 will stand vigil on Thursday evening from 7 - 8 p.m.
The Catholic War Veterans will hold services on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m.
