Duranko
February 23, 1924 – January 15, 2019
George Duranko of Uniontown, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 15 th , 2019 at the age of 94. He was born on February 23 rd , 1924 to Anna (Kotrady) and John Duranko.
In 1942, George graduated from North Union High School, and in 1943, he enlisted into the Navy to serve the United States during WWII. After being released from the service, George attended Waynesburg University, where he obtained a Bachelor's Degree in business. He later taught at North Union High School and Laurel Highlands High School as a business mathematics teacher where he retired from in 1982. Along with his time as a teacher, he also served as a District Magistrate. Throughout his life, he was part of many organizations, including Catholic War Veterans, VFW, AMVETS, Hutchinson Sportsman's Club, and Juniata Sportsman's Club.
George is preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna (Kotrady) Duranko, as well as his 9 brothers and sisters; Anna, Mary, Martha, Sophie, Katie, John, Steven, Joseph, and Helen. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Dorothy (Zubovich) Duranko, his two children, George Duranko (Amy), and Michelle Duranko, granddaughter, Hannah Duranko, and many nieces and nephews. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone he interacted with.

Friends and family will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 North Gallatin Avenue Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Friday, January 18, from 2 p.m.- 4 p.m. and
6 p.m.- 8 p.m. Parastas prayers will be said at 7 p.m. On Saturday, January 19, Panachida prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the procession to church.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday in St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 185 E. Main St., Uniontown, PA, with the Very Reverend Ronald P. Larko as celebrant.
Interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, PA, where military honors will be accorded by George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103.
