Frank Steven Horvath, age 88, of Hopwood, PA, died peacefully at home on Saturday, July 12, 2014. He was born on March 15, 1926, in Nilan, PA, son of the late George Horvath and Ann Horvath Furman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Frank Horvath, II., and five brothers, infant George Horvath, Andrew Horvath, John Horvath, Raymond Furman, and Robert Furman.

Frank retired from Duquesne Light Warwick Mine as Machine Forman, and member of the Mine Rescue Team. He was a Certified EMT, a member of St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, and former Holy Name Society, and UMWA Local 6310.

During WWII, Frank proudly served his country with the United States 3rd Army, 9th Division, 60th Regiment under General George Patton; and later the 7th Army, 103rd Division, 411th Regiment under General Alexander Patch, at the rank of Corporal, and as a decorated war veteran in the European Theater of Operations. He was a member of George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 Hopwood, North Union V.F.W. Post 8543, American Legion Post 51, and Disabled American Veterans.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 65 years, Ann (Barron) Horvath; their children, David Horvath and wife Susan of Ann Arbor, MI, Daniel Horvath and wife Agnes of Fairfax,VA, Mark Horvath and wife Salomi of Holmdel, NJ, Pamela Minnick and husband Mel of Uniontown, PA, and Marilyn Horvath of Shipman, VA; grandchildren, Stephen Horvath and wife Katherine, Helen Burnette and husband Blake, Michael Horvath and wife Rebecca, Annie Horvath, Andrew Horvath and wife Leah, Christopher Horvath, Matthew Minnick and wife Lindsay, Lee Minnick, Jonathan Minnick, Wesley Hull and wife Brynn, and Whitney Hull; great grandchildren, Patrick Horvath, Brayden Burnette, Logan Burnette, Lyla Burnette, Vera Horvath, Braden Hanna, Rylan Minnick, Jeremiah Hull, and Iverson Alleyne.

Frank is also survived by brothers and sisters, Joseph Horvath and wife Harriet of Uniontown, PA, Henry Furman of Euclid, OH, Dolores Burns of Sandy Springs, MD, Elmer Furman and wife Mary Lou of Pittsburgh, PA, and Mildred Bradley of Pittsburgh, PA.

Frank was a loving husband and father with extensive skills in auto mechanics, home construction, electrical, electronics, plumbing, carpentry, and many others. There was not a problem he could not fix.

Family and friends will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Tuesday, July 15, from 3-5 p.m. and 7- 9 p.m., and on Wednesday, July 16, until 10:15 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be at the funeral home.

The Funeral Mass will follow on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, 61 N. Mt. Vernon Ave., Uniontown, PA, with Rev. Father James W. Clark as Celebrant.

Interment will be held at Mount St. Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, PA, where military honors will be accorded by AMVETS Post 103.

The Parish Wake Service will be held on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
