It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Francis T. “Frankie” Varto, 66, of Uniontown, on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at the Jefferson Hospital from complications from open heart surgery. 

He was born in Uniontown on December 26, 1959 to the late Frank and Betty Faris Varto. 

He graduated from Fairchance Georges High School, class of 1977.

Frankie worked at Cross Keys Human Services in Brownsville as fiscal officer. 

He was a member of St. Mary Nativity Church. 

Frankie was a member of the BPO Elks Lodge 370, Knight of Columbus Council 1275 3rd Degree, VFW  Post 8543, and several other associations.

He was an avid NASCAR fan. 

He survived by loving companion, Peggy Layhue of Uniontown; sister, Cheryl Wonkovich and husband Jack of Ohio; sister in law, Peggy Varto of Fairchance; several nieces and nephews and beloved friends; dear cat, Olive. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Varto and Cindy Kushner; and a brother, Stephen Varto. 

Visitation for Frankie will be held at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, PA 15401 on Thursday, May 7th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A blessing service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 8th at 12 PM, with visitation before from 10 AM to 12 PM.

Interment is in Mt. St. Macrina Cemetery.
