Francis E. "Flicker" Shimko, age 85, of West Leisenring, PA, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2012, with his loving family at his side. He was born on October 27, 1926, son of the late Andrew and Lydia (Downey) Shimko.
Francis is survived by his loving wife, Anna Marie Shimko; their two sons, Timothy E. Shimko and wife Sheri, of Brownsville, PA., and Lawrence Shimko of West Leisenring, PA.; his grandchildren, Shannon M. Thomas and husband Paul L. of LaBelle, PA., and Christopher Shimko, of Brownsville, PA.; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Skylar, Paityn, and Bethany; two brothers, Andrew Shimko, and John "Jack" Shimko with wife Phyllis; two sisters, Patricia Furin, and Margaret " Peggy" Burns; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Francis was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, the West Leisenring Volunteer Fire Department, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the U.S. Steel Golf League and a previous member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid golfer and bowler who enjoyed spending time working in his yard. Francis was also well known as a private bar tender.
Along with his parents Francis was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Shimko; and an infant sister, Mary Catherine Shimko.
Friends will be received at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-9 PM and Thursday, April 26 until 9:00 AM when Prayers of Transfer will be said.
A Funeral Mass will follow at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, in Uniontown, PA. at 9:30 AM, with Rev. Fr. James D. Tringhese as Celebrant
Interment will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, PA., where Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 51 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church.
