Obituary

Francis L. Lemansky, age 76, of Hopwood, PA, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019, in Uniontown, PA.

He was born January 16, 1943, in Uniontown, PA, son of Francis and Veronica Lemansky.

Fran was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Uniontown, PA.  He was a devout Catholic who had a special devotion to St. Padre Pio.

Fran graduated from Uniontown Area High School in 1960.  He earned a B.S. Degree in Health and Physical Education from Slippery Rock University, and an M.S. Degree in Safety and Loss Control Management from West Virginia University.

Fran retired from Intermediate Unit I in 2003 having spent most of his teaching career at the Waynesburg Youth Development Center and as Head Teacher at the Adult Learning Center in Uniontown.  He was named Outstanding Educator of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce in 1998.

He was owner of the Lemansky Driving School, Cree Mee Dip Drive-In Restaurant, and Lemansky Pre-School Center.

As a lifelong sports enthusiast, Fran enjoyed competing in many sports; pole-vaulting, racquetball, tennis, basketball, bowling, and golf.  His favorite was soccer which he played at Slippery Rock University, receiving two All American bids.  He pioneered soccer in Fayette County conducting soccer camps and starting the Laurel Highlands soccer program.  He coached the varsity team for 14 years and was Coach of the Year in 1992.

As a lifetime member of the Uniontown YMCA, Fran enjoyed working out and socializing with friends.  He served as the Interim Executive Director from 1968 to 1970.

He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 53 years, Arlene, son Bart, of whom he was so proud and his wife Holly; grandchildren Brett and Bailey, whom he loved unconditionally; sister Joanne Rae and husband Robert of Florida; brothers Raymond and wife Patricia of Uniontown, PA, and Michael and wife Colleen of Hopwood, PA; sisters-in-law Beverly Kanyok of Brownsville, PA, Antoinette Letavec and husband Joseph of Dayton, Ohio, and Helene Kifus and husband Rudy of Monongahela, PA, brother-in-law Joseph Gondek and wife Beatrice of Harrisburg, PA, along with nieces, nephews, and friends.

Fran will be remembered as a kind, compassionate, prayerful man who truly enjoyed being around people.  His beautiful smile and positive attitude will not be forgotten by his family and those who loved him.

Friends will be received at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext.,  Uniontown, Pa. on Thursday, January 24, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday, January 25, until 9:15 a.m. when prayers of transfer will be said.

The Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. on Friday in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 50 Jefferson St., Uniontown, Pa.

Interment will follow at Mount Macrina Uniontown, Pa.
